Big Beach Brewing is a must-try for craft beer in Gulf Shores, Alabama

Are you asking yourself "Where can I find craft beer in Gulf Shores, Alabama?" Big Beach Brewing Company is your answer. Get your growler filled and bring it back to Fort Morgan, pack your car with a few cases or just sit at the taproom bar and partake from one of the 12 taps. Big Beach offers a variety of beers brewed right here in Southern Alabama. A recent check of the tap list showed a variety of beers on tap, from the Shores Light American light lager to a cantaloupe sour with a Mexican lager, pale ale and wheat in between. Check out the Big Beach Brewing Company website for a current tap list.

Big Beach Brewing Company is located at 300 East 24th Avenue in Gulf Shores - under a 30-minute drive from our new vacation beach house for rent, Aurora Del Mar in Ft. Morgan, Alabama.

The craft beer oasis that is the Big Beach Brewing complex sits near Tacky Jack's and at the foot of the under-construction Waterway Village Pedestrian Bridge. When the bridge is complete in 2024, it will give visitors a way to cross over the Intercoastal Waterway on foot or bike. Make a night of it and have drinks at Big Beach and dinner at Lulu's. Don't overindulge at either place though because look at this design!

Seriously though, it would be hard to resist seeing this thing and not wanting to just try it out.

Back to the beer though.

Local dentist Jim Shamburger and his family opened Big Beach Brewing Co. in Gulf Shores back in 2016. It sounds cliche, but the dream actually began almost a decade before that when Jim's daughter Millie bought him a home brewing kit. Jim's hobby eventually led to a desire to fill what he saw as a void in the Gulf Shores area.

As fate would have it - or maybe it was the beer gods doing what they do - a man named Rod Murray happened to stop in to see the Shamburgers one day and ask if they needed help brewing beer.

Rod was a longtime homebrewer who became a professional brewer at Public House Brewing Company in St. James, Missouri in 2011. Rod recounted how he became a professional brewer on an episode of the Beer Guys Radio podcast back in 2017.

It's safe to say that Big Beach Brewing and Golf Coast beer drinkers have benefited greatly from this chance encounter.

The Big Beach Brewing taproom features 12 taps to offer a variety of Big Beach beers as well as some special guests. The taps featuring the brewery's own creations pour directly from the finishing tanks rather than from individual kegs. The "tank-to-tap" allows you to experience these craft beers in a unique way.

No matter your style, Big Beach Brewing has a beer for you. IPA drinkers will appreciate the brewery's flagship Hundred Daze IPA. Those of you whose only experience with beer consists of the "big boys" should try Rod's Reel Cream Ale, named for Murray.

According to Untappd - the social networking platform for beer aficionados - the most popular beers at Big Beach Brewing are the above-mentioned Hundred Daze IPA and Rod's Reel Cream Ale as well as the Area Two Fifty-One Hazy IPA.

The Hundred Daze IPA is the brewery's flagship IPA with "citrus, apricot, passion fruit and black pepper aromas". If you subscribe to the idea that a restaurant's club sandwich is a good measuring stick, then order this beer first at Big Beach's tap room.

The highest-rated Big Beach beers among the Untappd faithful are the Tiramisu Coffee Stout, the Piña Colada sour and the Maple Bourbon Barrel-aged Stout.

A review of the Tiramisu Coffee Stout is straight-to-the-point in saying "Holy cow. It's a liquid tiramisu! Delicious."
